Crack Almonds

imageCrack Almonds were mentioned early in the show, in the third episode, when Larry rattles of his Whole Foods grocery list to Piper over the prison payphone before attempting phone sex.  They’re basically roasted almonds with a sugary coating.

These seemed really simple to make, so definitely a good recipe for the end of a long work day!

You can get the recipe yourself here.

20180720_165614Because the Vons near my house never has what I’m looking for, I ended up with already roasted almonds instead of non-roasted.  Normally you would start by cooking the almonds by themselves over the stove for a few minutes, but I jumped straight into the part where I add sugar.

So first step, after chopping up the almonds, is to heat up a skillet and cook the almonds for several minutes, stirring frequently.  Then add in brown sugar and salt and continue stirring and cooking over the stove.

It suggests about 3-5 minutes, so the brown sugar melts but the almonds don’t burn.  Lo and behold, the brown sugar started melted right around 2-3 minutes in!  I left them on the stove for another minute or so, but it started smelling slightly burnt so I removed them quickly at that point.

Then spread them on a baking sheet and let them cool!  And it really only takes 5-10 minutes for them to get cool enough to handle and eat.

Taste: 10/10

“Crack Almonds” is an appropriate name for these – they’re very addictive!  They’re not overly sweet, but just the right amount.  And of course the fact that they were so simple to make made them taste even better 😀20180720_172509

Just be careful not to eat the entire batch, like I did!

Difficulty: Easy

These were ridiculously simple to make.  As long as you can use a stove, you can make this.

Cost: Cheap

You’ll need to purchase almonds, and possibly brown sugar if you don’t already have some in your pantry.
