A Tight Jam

rose-finn-canto-bight-star-wars-last-jediOkay, so being in a “tight jam” could apply to almost any movie, but in this case it’s in reference to Rose and Finn’s escape from Canto Bight.

I thought this would be very easy to make, as it’s really just a matter of combining strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice in a saucepan and boiling it down (while mashing).  Once it’s done, carefully pour into a pint jar, let cool, and then seal and refrigerate.

20200623_170110I ended up boiling mine for double the amount of time stated, though, because it never passed their “doneness” test.  This test included putting a little bit of the jam on a refrigerated plate, swirling it around, and seeing if it’s sticky or runny.  Mine always appeared to be runny during the test, even when I finally gave up and removed it from the stove.  At this point, it really did look more than done despite it failing the test.

Because I had boiled the berries for double the amount of time, I had only half the amount of jam than it’s supposed to make and it was thicker than a typical jam.

Taste: 10/10

The flavor was perfect, even though the consistency was a bit off due to me boiling it for too long.

Difficulty: Average

I really thought this would fall into the easy category, but getting an accurate test (or at least understanding the test) on when the jam is done was difficult.

Cost: Cheap

You just need strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice.  That being said, you’ll also need a pint jar to put your jam into, which could increase your cost if you don’t have one already.
