Bob’s Burgers: Rest in Peas Burger

Even with a newborn and my life in chaos, I couldn’t let Halloween pass by without making at least one Halloween-related recipe! And yes, in this case I’m only referring to the burger’s name. Otherwise there’s nothing else “Halloween” about it!

This is actually one of few vegetarian burgers in the cookbook, made mostly of black-eyed peas, green peas and mushrooms. It differs from the show, where it’s actually a meat burger that is served with snap peas and carrots.

The peas are processed in a food processor, and then onion is sauteed. The onion, minced mushroom, egg, onion powder and hot sauce are all mixed with the peas, followed by the breadcrumbs.

It indicates you might need more bread crumbs than the recipe calls for, but I just used the amount stated on the recipe. To be honest, it probably could have used a bit more so the mixture wasn’t as wet and sloppy.

The patties are then formed and left to sit while the bread crumbs absorb the extra liquid. You can then either bake or fry these, and I chose to bake.

Once they’re done, just put on buns with tomato, lettuce, sliced onion and any other condiments you’d like!

Taste: 8/10

These were pretty darn good for a veggie burger! I did think they needed a bit more kick though, so I might add more hot sauce into the burgers if I made them again.

Difficulty: Average

These are slightly trickier than your average burger, mostly because you need to eyeball how much bread crumbs you’ll need otherwise the mix can be challenging to work with. I think baking them vs. frying them is much easier if you’re burger mixture is a little too soft.

Cost: Cheap

You’ll need black-eyed peas, green peas, onion, butter, mushrooms, egg, onion powder, hot sauce, panko breadcrumbs, buns, and whatever you’d like to use for your toppings.
