Girls Just Wanna Have Fennel Burger
This burger is from Season 2, Episode 7 of Bob’s Burgers. It’s a lamb and beef combination burger, topped with fennel slaw.
For the slaw, the fennel is grated, the celery is sliced, and the cabbage is grated. It’s all tossed into a bowl of cold water mixed with some lemon juice to keep it fresh. The recipe says the grater will slice the fennel into “matchsticks,” but mine did not. They were much thinner.

Mayo, sugar, vinegar, mint leaves and dill are mixed together, and then the drained cabbage and fennel veggies are added in. The slaw is put in the fridge to keep cold.
For the burgers, the ground beef and lamb are combined and diced apple is folded in. Patties are formed with your hands, seasoned with salt and pepper, and then cooked however you’d like.

To build the burger, a cabbage leaf is placed on first, followed by the burger, fennel celery slaw, and then the top bun.

Taste: 7/10
The slaw was quite liquidy, even after I drained it as best as I could. I think it would have been better if I had dried with paper towels after a regular draining.
I’m also not a fan of lamb or slaw, to be honest, so this wasn’t the best burger for me. I will say, however, that the dill paired very nicely with this meal!
Difficulty: Average
Instructions are lacking in this recipe a bit, for example cutting the fennel into matchsticks would have worked much better than grating. Grating both the fennel and the cabbage was a real pain and very messy. Otherwise it’s not a very complicated recipe, though.

You’ll need lemon juice, fennel, celery, cabbage, mayo, sugar, apple cider vinegar, mint leaves, fresh dill, ground beef, ground lamb, green apple, and burger buns. That’s a lot of ingredients for 4 burgers!
