About
Hi! I’m Jessica. And here’s a little bit about me:
I grew up in Southern Ontario, Canada, and moved to the United States when I was 20. I spent a year in New York City, tasting some of the best street food of my life, before moving to Los Angeles.
It was here in LA where I reconnected with a friend from back home. We became roommates a year later, and about 6 years after that I married him.
My mom is Italian, so meal times have always been a very important event at our house. This woman makes pasta from scratch, jars her own jams and tomato sauce, and makes a mean bowl of minestrone soup. But her talents don’t end at Italian food! She taught my sister and I how took cook food from around the world, and now both of us love to travel and try new recipes.
The first cooking blog I ever followed was Inn at the Crossroads. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan (and I certainly am), definitely check it out! They have pretty much every recipe mentioned in the “A Song of Ice & Fire” book series.
Eventually they released “A Feast of Ice and Fire,” and this became my first fiction-based cookbook. After that, a collection started forming on my shelf.
I’ve made the odd recipe here and there from most of the books, but then life got in the way and I started cooking less and less. In 2018 I resolved to finally pull out my apron, roll up my sleeves, and put these cookbooks to the test!
I review each new cookbook after testing about 20 recipes, and have managed to find quite a few keepers along the way! Check out the “Cookbooks” tab to see if I’ve reviewed your favorite cookbook yet!
I also have a new blog on my sister site, thisgeekloveskids.com. There’s not much content up there yet, but it will grow quickly!
